Residential Trips & Visits
Residential Trips
At Ludgvan School we believe the valuable experiences that children gain from
residential trips should be for all year groups, not just KS2. To that end, we run
a comprehensive residential programme that develops as your child moves
through school. This ensures that no residential is ever too big a jump for them
to manage and they can rely on their experiences from the previous year.
Our smallest children in Early Years are invited to stay ‘late’ at school for the evening playing games on the field, singing songs and having a picnic tea during the summer term.
In Y1, children have a 1 night sleepover in school. This gives children the opportunity to spend the night away from home with their friends, with the security that home isn’t too far away. They go on a class trip for the day in the local area, stay the night at school and then go on another trip the next day.
In Y2, children spend the night at Cohort Youth Hostel in St Ives. This is local to us, being only 7 miles away, but offers a different environment where the children enjoy a range of fun activities within west Penwith and around St Ives.
In Y3, children spend 2 nights away. Traditionally, they have spent their residential camps in Coverack and have enjoyed trips to the Eden Project and Roskilly’s Farm. Due to the youth hostel closing this year, we will be returning to a favourite YHA near Padstow, but will still be visiting the Eden Project.
Our Y4 children enjoy an action packed 2 nights at Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre, where they tackle the high ropes course, coasteer their way around the coastline and develop their teamwork skills.
In Y5, we head to London for 2 nights. We visit the Houses of Parliament, watch a West End show, enjoy the
London Eye and much more!
In Y6 the itinerary changes from year to year, but we have been know to camp on the Isles of Scilly, spend a week in France, go wild camping near Truro, spend the week in Butlins and this year we will be heading to a YHA in North Cornwall. This week is always action packed and full of adrenaline activities and the children are given more independence throughout the week.
We also welcome our friends from Five Islands School on the Isles of Scilly each year who camp in our school hall and visit our local area in our school minibuses.
School trips and visits
We are fully committed to ensuring our children benefit from learning outside of the classroom as much as they do inside. We have three school minibuses which enables us to take a whole class out of school with ease. Our staff make the most of this opportunity and take their classes on many trips linked to their in school learning.
