At Ludgvan School, we ensure that the curriculum that we offer children is as engaging, exciting and broad as possible so as to provide them with a wealth of experiences, both inside the classroom and within the wider environment. To achieve this, we follow a topic curriculum that has been designed and written specifically for the children at Ludgvan school. Each year group covers all of the foundation subjects, through studying their ‘Class Country’. We also run a ‘Lifeskills’ curriculum at Ludgvan which. again, has been written by our staff with our children in mind. This curriculum is designed to prepare children for life outside school and focuses on Organisation, Finance & Enterprise, Etiquette, Comunity, Safety and Outdoors.
We ensure that all objectives within the National Curriculum are covered. You can find more about the objectives we cover in each subject here: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-curriculum
In Maths we use Abacus as a spine throughout KS1 and KS2 to ensure coverage and progression. Each teacher can adapt this scheme to suit the individual needs of the children in their class. You can find out more about Abacus here: http://www.pearsonschoolsandfecolleges.co.uk/Primary/Mathematics/AllMathematicsresources/Abacus/Abacus.aspx
In EYFS and KS1 we use ‘Read Write Inc’ to teach phonics. This scheme has proved to be very successful and you can find out more information about it here: http://www.ruthmiskin.com/en/read-write-inc-programmes/phonics/
